Should My Brand or Organization attend the Big E?

Interested in getting exposure for your brand or organization to the approximately 1 million+ people that attend the Eastern States Exhibition (aka “The Big E”) in Springfield, Massachusetts this September?

Maine Outdoor Brands, in cooperation with Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and Outdoor Recreation Office, is exploring the idea of a MOB booth for members to sell and/or highlight your organization in the Maine Building at the Big E.

What is the Big E?

The Big E! is the state fair not only for Maine, but five other New England states:  Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.  All six states have buildings on the Avenue of States – sovereign buildings dedicated to promoting New England products, agriculture, natural resources and culture.

MOB member Brant & Cochran has been part of the Big E the last two years and has this to say about the experience:

“We have had great success in selling our Maine-made axes and accessories at the Big E.  Not only has it been a money maker for us, but the exposure has led to many after-show sales and collaborations.  It is a central part of our fall show schedule.”

Other businesses and organizations that have exhibited in the Maine Building have included the Maine Department of Tourism, Hilltop Spoonworks, Coffee By Design, and many Maine Made program partners and brewers.

When is it?

The MOB booth would be set up from September 19-23, 2020. All brands/organizations would have to commit to a minimum of two days.

Who goes?

1.6 million people attended the fair in 2019 – drawing residents from all over New England. The daily attendance numbers can be found here

Should I go?

This is a consumer facing, highly visited event that leverages the Maine brand. We recommend having a few key products to sell. Products connected to the Maine brand will do well. This event would also be appropriate for our non-profit partners who would like to raise awareness of your organization.

How much does it cost and what should I expect?

We are proposing a shared exhibit space  Big E – similar to what we have done for the Outdoor Retailer Show. Up to three brands or organizations per day could exhibit and/or sell in a MOB-branded 20’ x 13’ space inside the Maine building.  Our thought is to have coverage in the booth for all those days with a different mix of companies and organizations.  The exhibitors would also represent MOB and promote its mission to expand the outdoor economy in Maine (and our businesses!).

The investment to participate in the Big E as part of the MOB space is minimal: $50/weekday, $100/weekend. This gives you access to the fairgrounds, the ability to sell your products or market your brand and organization, and help expand MOB’s mission.  Each participating organization will be given a specific area in the booth and can use tables provided or bring their own set-up.  Electricity is included as part of your daily fee.  There is room to leave your products in the Maine building overnight as it is locked (and actually patrolled by Maine State Troopers). Ideally, we would have 2-3 organizations participating per day over the duration of the fair.
