New Maine ADVENTURE Plate Aims to Strengthen Maine’s $3B Outdoor Recreation Economy While Inspiring More Opportunities for Outdoor Recreation

PORTLAND, Maine (August 19, 2020) – Launched this month by Maine Outdoor Brands, the ADVENTURE specialty plate provides a way for Maine vehicle owners to show their support for Maine’s growing outdoor recreation industry – including all the outdoor gear manufacturers, outfitters, youth trip leading organizations and more – whose products and services enable more Mainers to get outdoors.

Maine Outdoor Brands (MOB) is a non-profit alliance of more than 125 members from across the state and is sponsoring the ADVENTURE plate. A portion of the proceeds from the plate will be used to support education, marketing and workforce development for Maine’s outdoor industry.

For the ADVENTURE plate to become a reality, 2,000 Mainers must pre-order the specialty plate. Any Maine resident with an active vehicle registration can pre-order an ADVENTURE plate for $25. Additionally, Maine-based Old Town is giving away a classic, red Discovery 119 canoe to one of the 2,000 people who sign up. Once approved by the Legislature, those who’ve made a reservation will receive a voucher redeemable for the new ADVENTURE plate, available in 2021.

“Jen and I love living and recreating in Maine, and we couldn’t think of a better place to start and grow an outdoor business,” said David Koorits, co-founder of Good To-Go with his wife Jen Scism. “That’s why Good To-Go was one of the first businesses to join Maine Outdoor Brands. That’s also why we are ordering and supporting the Maine ADVENTURE plate. We strongly believe that building and growing the outdoor economy will strengthen this great state we call home.”

The ADVENTURE plate was illustrated by Maine-based artist and entrepreneur, Bri Dostie. Dostie is the founder of Confluence Collective, a Maine Fishing + Recreation Guide and overall nature lover.

“Maine’s growing outdoor recreation industry offers so much opportunity for Mainers like me to stay here, make a life, and take part in crafting the story of our future,” said Bri Dostie, founder of Confluence Collective. “The plate welcomes the greater community to join in as well and celebrate the natural spaces we’re so fortunate to have access to.”
