Maine GearShare and Woods + Waters Gear Exchange host Grand Opening event in Freeport
FREEPORT, Maine — An exciting business & non-profit partnership increasing access to the outdoors has moved to Freeport. Two established storefronts from the Brunswick community have jointly relocated to a larger location at 457 US Route 1 in Freeport, Maine.
Maine GearShare is a nonprofit gear lending library and repair shop, with an inventory of over 3,000 pieces of equipment and apparel available for public rental. Additionally, their specialized gear repair program reduces waste and keeps gear ready to use.
Woods + Waters Gear Exchange consigns outdoor gear, offering items from hiking clothing to kayaks. They strive to divert quality equipment and apparel from landfills by creating a circular economy, selling fine gear while minimizing new production and waste.
Both share a goal of supporting sustainable and inclusive outdoor recreation by making gear more accessible. Whether it’s through renting for your trip or buying secondhand, this community hub is working to lower the cost barrier of outdoor gear and create a welcoming environment for all levels of outdoor enthusiasts.
“There’s an unique opportunity to create a vibrant outdoor community hub through this collaboration with Woods + Waters Gear Exchange”, said Maine GearShare Executive Director Josh Bossin. “We look forward to hosting events and creating a space where individuals and groups can pursue their passions, while directly supporting their community.”
To celebrate this collaboration, Maine GearShare & Woods and Waters will host a Grand Opening Event on July 31st from 2pm-6pm. The event will also incorporate community partners including Maine Beer Company and Within The Whale (a 43-foot inflatable educational whale). Food, crafts and fun will be abundant at this event.
