Our Work

Our members always come first. So we work to create opportunities for local business leaders and entrepreneurs to connect, learn, and collaborate, and shout their praises from the mountaintops to elevate the Maine Outdoor Brand on both a national and international stage. Keeping in line with our belief that we are stronger together, we partner with Maine’s Outdoor Office of Recreation to support career exposure and recruitment to ensure the Maine outdoor industry has a thriving, top-shelf workforce.

COLLABORATIVE MARKETING

From attending trade shows like Outdoor Retailer to producing our holiday gift guide, we promote and drive business to our member brands.

ADVOCACY + AWARENESS

We raise awareness about the importance of Maine’s outdoor recreation economy and advocate at the state and federal levels for issues important to the long term health of the industry.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

To help connect more people to outdoor careers, we promote our job board, speak to college classes, and share resources amongst our member brands.

NETWORKING + EDUCATION

We support all of our brands - and our emerging brands in particular - by hosting trend talks, and organizing tours and meet-ups to help our members connect, learn and collaborate.

Our Strategic Plan

Just like any successful adventure needs a good trail map, we rely on a map of our own to help us stay focused on our mission to uplift the Maine outdoor recreation economy. Want to see where we’re going and how we plan to get there? Read our two year strategic plan we adopted in 2024 to find out.

MOB will create an environment where outdoor industry business leaders and entrepreneurs can connect, learn and collaborate.
Organize regular briefings and networking events where business leaders and entrepreneurs learn from both experts and one another to address barriers and opportunities for growth.
Plan and execute an annual outdoor industry summit in partnership with the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation that includes networking, speakers, and discussions on strategies to grow Maine’s outdoor recreation economy.
Pilot a peer learning or mentorship program that pairs experienced industry leaders with emerging entrepreneurs to provide guidance and support.
Enhance MOB’s member directory and resource center with industry-specific resources and promote a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration among members.
Explore creation of an outdoor industry co-working or makerspace to provide an in-person platform for resource sharing, collaboration, and community events.

MOB will provide collaborative opportunities for companies to market their products and services, increasing exposure for individual businesses, MOB, and Maine’s outdoor industry as a whole.
Develop and implement a comprehensive domestic trade strategy in partnership with the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation, including training resources, to facilitate and support active participation of MOB members in collaborative booths at trade and consumer shows.
Initiate and host an annual joint marketing campaign, inviting member businesses to actively participate and collaboratively promote their offerings and/or work to promote and protect Maine’s outdoors.
Identify and promote opportunities for collaborative photoshoots, giveaways, or other shared marketing initiatives.
Develop branded assets for both new and existing members to promote their affiliation with MOB, both internally and externally.
Foster MOB community by regularly celebrating members and their contribution to the state of Maine and the outdoor industry.

MOB will help create a stronger pipeline for employees into Maine’s outdoor industry.
Increase use and exposure of MOB’s outdoor industry job board.
Explore ways to help high school and college students build a stronger connection to outdoor industry careers and Maine outdoor businesses through things like internship experiences, tours, or speakers.
Use the MOB platform and network to promote and help shape outdoor industry degree and leadership development programs.
Expand MOB’s scholarship program statewide for high school students pursuing a degree in outdoor industry business administration or leadership.
Identify and pursue funding opportunities to further support and strengthen the outdoor industry workforce.

MOB will elevate the outdoor recreation industry as a key economic driver in the state of Maine and advocate for its long-term growth.
Define and raise awareness of Maine’s outdoor industry through storytelling and analysis of economic impact.
Complete development of a strategic roadmap for sustainable growth of the outdoor industry in Maine, and set up key partnerships for implementation.
Partner with and support the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation and Department of Economic and Community Development to help meet state economic goals.
Increase outdoor industry participation and presence in policy forums that will impact the outdoor recreation economy.
Build relationships and awareness in the Legislature and advocate for continued investments in the outdoor recreation economy.
Strengthen relationships with Maine’s outdoor-related trade associations, Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and Outdoor Industry Association to collaborate on advocacy and amplify the industry.

MOB will establish ourselves as the leading voice for the outdoor recreation industry in Maine and strengthen our organization to
better serve our members.
Drive value to our member brands by providing collaborative marketing opportunities, networking, resource and knowledge sharing, hiring support, and advocacy.
Strengthen MOB’s board of directors and operationalize committees to implement strategic priorities.
Expand MOB’s membership base, especially in rural areas of the state, and continuously be responsive to the needs of our members.
Use our platform and voice to help create a more inclusive and welcoming outdoor industry.
Explore long term funding opportunities and structures for MOB initiatives, including additional recurring revenue streams.
