Portland’s Chimani Featured as Apple’s App of the Day

National park travel app developed in Maine earns one of the App Store’s highest editorial honors.

PORTLAND, Maine — July 1, 2026 — Chimani, the Portland-based developer of one of the world’s leading national park travel apps, has been selected by Apple as its App of the Day, a featured editorial spotlight on the App Store that introduces exceptional apps and the people behind them to millions of Apple users worldwide.

Founded in Portland in 2010, Chimani has grown from a simple park guide into a comprehensive travel platform used by more than 3.5 million travelers to plan, navigate, and experience America’s national parks. Today the app combines AI-powered trip planning, professionally written travel guides, offline GPS navigation, live park alerts, and a growing community where visitors share tips, photos, and firsthand experiences.

“To be recognized by Apple in this way is incredibly meaningful,” said Kerry Gallivan, founder and CEO of Chimani. “We’ve spent more than fifteen years focused on one mission: helping people have more meaningful experiences in our national parks. This recognition is a testament to our small team here in Portland and to the millions of park visitors who have supported us along the way.”

The App Store editorial feature highlights independent developers whose products demonstrate exceptional quality, innovation, and user experience. Apple’s editorial team selects only a small number of apps each day for this recognition.

Over the past year, Chimani has introduced AI-powered itinerary planning, live park conditions, collaborative trip planning, community-generated park updates, and new booking capabilities for lodging and tours, while continuing to expand its extensive collection of park guides and offline maps.

Although headquartered on Portland’s historic working waterfront, Chimani’s impact extends well beyond Maine. The app helps travelers explore hundreds of national parks and protected areas across the United States while encouraging responsible recreation and deeper connections with public lands.

“As technology continues to evolve, our goal remains simple,” Gallivan said. “We want to make exploring the outdoors easier, more inspiring, and more accessible, while helping people develop a lifelong appreciation for our national parks.”

Chimani is available as a free download on the Apple App Store.
