Sperry General Store
South Portland, ME
Sperry General Store is a décor and gift-focused shop specializing in vintage style travel posters, prints and handcrafted artisan items.
Their style is inspired by graphic Art Deco, specifically the Swiss poster design of the 1920s and 1930s. The woodworking and metal design is inspired by the Shaker and mission style of the American Arts and Crafts movement.
A husband and wife team, Liza Kelley Sperry owns SGS alongside her partner, Patrick Sperry. Liza designs the print and poster side of things while Patrick crafts the woodworking and metal products. They both have their BFA’s in Graphic Design from Maine College of Art & Design, and work outside of their home studio in South Portland, Maine. Liza grew up in Monson, in the Borestone mountain region where she roamed around 500 acres of family owned land. Her work is deeply inspired from the natural beauty of this area.
Acadia, Casco Bay, Katahdin, Moosehead Lake and Onawa are just a few of the locations highlighted in their work. Through their love of Maine and it’s natural beauty, they donate 1% of their sales to environmentally focused organizations throughout the state—including the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Nature Conservancy of Maine.
Sustainably focused, Sperry General Store uses eco-friendly paper, products and materials where possible and keep water use to a minimum with printing. Woodworking products are made with a combination of reclaimed wood throughout the state along high quality spruce. They also source organic, sustainable and biodegradable products in their packaging and production materials.
Their shop includes offset printed posters, prints, cards, stationery, totes, apparel metal and woodworking items. All products are made and printed in Maine and New England.
