A trip down one of Maine’s mighty rivers gives both splashy adrenaline highs and utter peace as you float through remote stretches of wilderness. These backcountry rambles are truly fun for the whole family, thanks to Maine’s seasoned rafting guides who can customize your trip to make sure everyone has a good time riding the rapids.

Gear Picks & Pro Tips

Every outdoor experience is better with the right gear and expert guidance. But when that gear is made by locals who live, work, and play here — and oh, just happen to be seasoned experts with the best intel around — it’s pretty tough to beat.

The Upper Kennebec Valley, and The Forks area in particular, is kind of a hidden gem -- and Northern Outdoors sits in the middle of it, with access to all its beautiful rivers and trails. Pro tip: Late September through Mid October is absolutely stunning – beautiful views of fall foliage line Route 201 on your way up to The Forks, and if you hit the river you’ll find the same vibrant fall colors along the Kennebec and Dead Rivers. Weekends are exciting, as most are filled with special high water releases on the Dead or Kennebec River, whereas midweek is quiet with generally less traffic and fewer visitors overall than our mid-summer months.

-Northern Outdoors

The Katahdin Region is an untapped area of WORLD CLASS recreational opportunities with Katahdin as your backdrop literally everywhere you go. We love the beautiful, dark, starry skies and the picturesque bluebird sunny days.
